On August 21, 2005, several Committee Members of the Santa Barbara County Republican Party attended the "A Taste of Freedom" party aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), which was making a visit to Santa Barbara as the guest of the Santa Barbara Council of the Navy League of the United States. The moto of the USS Ronald Reagan is "Peace Through Strength."
